The Fischer Institute is now offering cash “à la cart” physical therapy services for orthopedic injuries as well as other therapeutic strategies for recovery to improve your performance. Check out the multiple ways the Fischer Institute can help you heal and recover!

Dry Needling

Dry needling (DN) is an evidenced based technique in which thin needles are inserted into muscle, joints, and soft tissues with the goal of decreasing muscle spasm, increasing blood flow, stimulating tissue healing, and restoring normal function of soft tissues and joints. DN placement is not based on traditional acupuncture points, but rather targets specific musculoskeletal and neuromuscular structures. Like most other modalities used in physical therapy practice, this technique is most effective when combined with a comprehensive treatment program that includes functional movement retraining and exercise.  Current research shows that DN is an effective treatment technique for conditions such as low back pain, chronic ankle instability, cervicogneic headaches, post-op shoulder pain, osteoarthritis, tendonitis, chronic pain, and many other neuromuscular conditions.

cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.  This form of therapy was popularized during the 2016 Olympics when Gold Medalist Michael Phelps appeared at the Rio Olympics with purple spots on his back.  The suction created in this modality is typically only a few minutes but it’s long enough to rupture the capillaries just below the skins surface which causes the bruising.  Athletes who use it swear by it and say it speeds recovery and keeps them injury free.

Joint mobilization is a type of passive movement of a skeletal joint. It is usually aimed at one or more ‘target’ synovial joints with the aim of achieving a therapeutic effect. Benefits include, temporary relief of pain, shortened time to recover from acute back sprains, temporary increase in passive range of motion (ROM), physiological effects upon the central nervous system.  The practice includes soft tissue, muscle energy, myofascial release and can include osteopathic cranial mobilization.  No two sessions are alike, all sessions are customized to fit your needs.  Our world renown physical therapists will utilize a variety of manual techniques such as joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, ASTYM to name a few to modulate pain, increase joint range of motion, reduce or eliminate soft tissue swelling, inflammation or restriction, induce relaxation, improve contractile and non-contractile tissue extensibility and improve pulmonary function.

TheraGun is the newest device, which utilizes vibration therapy, that is accelerating patient recovery, and is becoming an essential tool for all physical therapists.  Vibration therapy creates a unique combination of frequency and amplitude which helps prevent the brain from recognizing pain signals being sent from the muscle. Other types of deep muscle treatments can sometimes be painful, but when using TheraGun, the strong percussive forces help to create large amounts of blood flow to the area which interrupts the pain cycle, and leads to a much more comfortable treatment. Faster muscle recovery is also achieved with increased blood flow, as nutrients are provided to area, and lactic acid is flushed.  At the Fischer Institute, an Elite Gunner facility, athletes and patients request that TheraGun be included in daily treatment because of the wide range of results it produces.  TheraGun can be used to treat almost any area of the body. TheraGun can be used to Treat trigger points in muscle tissue with less pain and for longer periods of time than previous types of treatments, loosens muscle tissue, treat fitness related muscle cramps, treat large muscles that are important for proper posture, treat small muscles that are important for movement, break up scar tissue, assist in applying pressure to a muscle while simultaneously treating with a manual therapy technique, reduces lactic acid buildup This game changing device is now utilized by more than 100 professional teams. Give it a try and feel the revitalizing benefits!

NORMATEC RECOVERY SYSTEM – 30 & 60 minute sessions

NormaTec is a leader in rapid recovery—the systems give a competitive edge to the world’s elite athletes, coaches, and trainers.  Establish recovery as an integral part of your training every athlete’s training.  The NormaTec PULSE Recovery Systems are dynamic compression devices designed for recovery and rehabilitation.  All of our systems use NormaTec’s patented PULSE technology to help athletes recover faster between trainings and after performance.  Our systems include a control unit and attachments which go on the legs, arms, or hips. They use compressed air to massage your limbs, mobilize fluid, and speed recovery with the patented NormaTec Pulse Massage Pattern. When you use the systems, you will first experience a pre-inflate cycle, during which the connected attachments are molded to your exact body shape. The session will then begin by compressing your feet, hands, or upper quad (depending on which attachment you are using). Similar to the kneading and stroking done during a massage, each segment of the attachment will first compress in a pulsing manner and then release. This will repeat for each segment of the attachment as the compression pattern works its way up your limb.

Astym treatment is the regenerative medicine of therapy and is designed to restore soft tissues at a cellular level.  It regenerates healthy soft tissues (muscles, tendons, etc.), and removes unwanted scar tissue that may be causing pain or movement restrictions.  Astym therapy has helped countless people by restoring their movement, getting rid of their pain, and giving them back their lives.  A few examples of the conditions that have been treated effectively are planter fasciitis, Achilles tendinosis, IT band syndrome, hamstring strain, shin splints, knee pain, and hip pain.  Astym therapy is so effective because it was scientifically developed to target the actual cause of the pain rather than just the symptoms. Years of scientific and clinical research conducted at leading universities and hospital systems resulted in Astym treatment, which now routinely resolves injuries that were previously thought to be permanent.  Astym treatment is unmatched in its ability to resolve tendinopathies, scar tissue problems, and other soft tissue dysfunctions.
